Homeownership in England has increased for the fourth year in a row, fuelled by the rise of the first-time buyer. 

According to the English Housing Survey, there were 14.8 million owner-occupied homes across the country in 2017/18, up from 14.4 million the previous year. 

This is an increase of 2.4 per cent on the previous year, and means that more than three in five households in England are now either mortgaged or owned outright by the occupier.
